A Brief History
RAF Locking opened in 1939 to cater for RAF and Fleet Air Arm training in ground and airborne communications and radar equipment and systems.
Following the end of National Service in 1960, the number of trainees declined until the station closed in 1998.
The married quarters were then sold and in 2002 the rest of the site was purchased by the Homes and Communities Agency and the South West of England Regional Development Agency.
The site was renamed Locking Parklands in October 2006.
Royal visitors to the site have included HRH Princess Margaret in 1953 and 1994, Her Majesty the Queen in 1986, Diana Princess of Wales in 1991 and the Duke of Gloucester at the Final Parade in 1998.
